Ayurved→Ayu   +   Veda

AYU  means Span of life(time from birth to death)  and VEDA means knowledge or learning.

Ayurveda is an Indian medical science, originating over 5000 years ago. The written source of this science is ancient books of knowledge known as the Vedas. The Vedas contain practical and scientific information on a wide variety of issues. The instruction manual for the natural living of human beings is called Ayurveda.

Ayurveda, the “Science of Life”,or longevity, is the holistic alternative science from INDIA . It is believed to be the oldest healing science in existence, forming the foundation of all others. The secreat of Ayurveda’s individualized healing method was preserved in India, whereas it has been lost or superseded in other cultures.

Originally four ancient books of Indian knowledge, wisdom and culture are known as the four Vedas:

  • Rikveda
  • Samaveda
  • Yajurveda
  • Atharvaveda

Ayurveda traces its origins to the Atharvaveda in particular, and is connected to Hindu religion of india, Atharvaveda contains 114 hymns or formulations for ayurvedic treatment of diseases. Ayurveda originated in and developed from these hymns. In this sense, ayurveda is considered by some to have divine origin. Indian Ayurveda has a long history, and is one of the oldest organised systems of medicine.

A classic ayurvedic text, that parallels the time frame of the Atharvaveda, is the Charaka Samhita. Written in the Indus Valley area around 1000 B.C. in Sanskrit by charak, it is a treatise on general medicine from ayurvedic herbals.Sushruta,a surgeon and student of dhanwantari wrote-the Sushruta Samhita (on sugery).

Ayurveda's lasting influence in the non Indo-European sphere began after the rise and spread of Buddhism in the 6th century B.C.E. Buddhist monks introduced Ayurveda to China, Tibet, Korea, Mongolia and Sri Lanka, leaving a lasting legacy in their medical systems.
